2023 Panini Obsidian Football is one of the season’s more colorful sets. It’s also one of the darkest. The chromium brand returns with a new mix of autographs, inserts, memorabilia cards and more.

The theme of the base set is black. Players are isolated when it comes to their photos leaving for minimalist backgrounds. There’s more going on with the borders, though.

This opens up things to Obsidian’s many parallels. Falling under the Electric Etch banner, these lines are filled with such colors as Purple, Green, Yellow, Red, Tri-Color Mojo and Blue Finite.

Black gives way to white for Contra parallels.

Headlining the hits are Rookie Jersey Autographs. Like the base set, parallels for these mix in a variety of colors — not to mention smaller print runs and progressively premium pieces of gear.

One of Panini’s most popular insert lines gets another dark take with Color Blast Black. Rather than the white backgrounds found in Prizm, these generate contrast in the opposite direction. Like the regular Color Blast cards, these are tough pulls.
